It’s more the evolution of the gaming platform that makes it social. Previously placing ads in games was a singular experience, sharing that experience wasn't possible until the development of internet gaming. Playstation Network and Xbox Live have only really developed in the last 5 years and social interaction in gaming has grown massively. These ads are being experienced in games while you are involved in what is essentially a conference call with a host of different people, often with those people changing each time you start a new gaming session (match, race etc.).

For me this has made it a social marketing platform rather than the broadcasting platform it was 10 years ago.

I agree that the H&M and Adidas clothing items are product placement. However, the respective brands have done this not only because it indicates an affection to the brand, but as that avatar is visible to all gamers the user plays against, the endorsement of the brand acts in a similar to joining a Facebook fan page, in developing brand ambassadors that can show off your products and their affinity with the brand to various other users on that platform.

not sure how sticking ads in games is somehow social marketing? its advertising 101 in my book, and the adidas and h&m outfits are straight up product placement.
proper old school.

Interesting article. It seems that advertisers will take advantage of this approach sooner rather than later.

Some really good points there Nick.

Networking and having a social presence is so important. One complements the other....

I've found one the best ways to meet people is to simply ask if you can come in for chat. It works in most cases.

Hi Leah,

A grad scheme is a development role for recent university graduates offered by many large and some medium sized companies. The role is usually for 2-3 years to develop the graduates skills in the industry that they wish to have a career in.

Having not gone through one myself I can't give you much insight in terms of what to expect.

Should this type of scheme be of interest to you I recommend you take a look at http://adgrads.blogspot.com/.

Hope that helps.

Hey there Nick,

Yeah, Jonathan certainly brought up an interesting idea. While I agree our sentiment process is manual right now (automated sentiment is right around the corner) you could probably set up some trigger words in the topic profile that might flag things as possible posts to dig in further on. Just a thought.

We actually offer non-profits a 50% discount as well.

Thanks for furthering the discussion on this because it certainly has some great merit for charities that wanted to look into this.

Cheers.

That's great to hear Mike, there are so many great uses for monitoring. I'm sure most charities and social services could find really productive ways of using it that no one else has even considered.

Keep up the good work!

Nick, I completely agree. I think there are several other examples in which monitoring be beneficial socially. Missing children, crime prevention, virus control to name a few.

We at Filtrbox already do offer a huge discount for non-profits.

Keep up "the good".
